The Kryvyi Rih school is one of the oldest Waldorf schools in Ukraine, having been founded in the 1990s. Despite the major challenges faced over the past four years, neither the school’s daily routine nor life in the school’s nursery has come to a standstill. To make this possible, the construction of a shelter was necessary, alongside other measures. The Friends of Waldorf Education supported this with two large donations totaling just over €120,000. Now, in her latest email sent in May, Marina Businarska, a teacher at the school, reports that the rainwater drainage systems were damaged during the last drone attack and that, as a consequence, water entered the shelter during the subsequent heavy rainfall:

For over 20 years, the Phoenix curative pedagogical school in Kharkiv has been supporting people with disabilities. The staff at the school are doing their utmost to continue working with the children and young people as best they can, despite the war. The Friends of Waldorf Education have been supporting the school for many years and, thanks to the help of a generous donor, are able to provide an additional monthly sum of 1,000 € towards staff costs for an initial period of six months. Valeriya Medvedeva emailed us from Kharkiv in April:

Last year, the Friends of Waldorf Education provided financial support to several Israeli Waldorf institutions for the construction of shelters, including kindergartens in Ramat Gan, near Tel Aviv. Lilach Dgani from the Association for the Advancement of Education in Ramat Gan regularly updates us via email on the current situation in Tel Aviv. In her message dated April 2026, she thanks us for our financial support for the construction of the shelters:

One of the main aims of the Mbagathi Rudolf Steiner School is to offer children from disadvantaged families a future – this applies to the majority of the more than 400 children and young people across ten year-groups, as well as in the nursery. Given that most children’s families are rarely able to afford the school fees, the school is urgently dependent on donations, for example in the form of educational sponsorships. Wycliffe Oduor is a teacher at the Waldorf School in Mbagathi and he shares with us his personal impressions of his work:

Arefeh Rezvanmanesh works in Iran, a country where political uncertainty and social upheaval shape the daily lives of many families. She and her team founded the Garden of Childhood kindergarten in 2021. Their shared goal was, and remains, to create a place where children can learn and grow in a safe and development-oriented environment. Waldorf education forms the basis of their work, yet it has taken on a particularly profound significance given the conditions in their country. She tells us about her work:

With the Waldorf Climate Balance Fund, the Friends of Waldorf are launching an initiative that combines carbon offsetting with global educational solidarity. The aim is to foster a sense of ecological responsibility and provide practical support for schools through a worldwide network.

Nestled between town and countryside, near Cali, a unique educational setting has emerged that sees itself as an educational village – grounded in Waldorf education, a sense of community, and a strong connection to nature. Camino del Sol supports children up to the age of ten and their families on a shared journey of development. Sandra Londoño is the founder and educational director of the Waldorf kindergarten there and tells us about her work:

Nana Gvinjilia, a nursery teacher, works at the Lisi Campus in Tbilisi, a relatively new and growing centre for Waldorf education. The kindergarten is one of the few institutions in Georgia that follows the Waldorf educational approach. Nana has helped shape the development of this centre from the very beginning and is one of the leading figures in the Georgian Waldorf movement. Here, she tells us about her work at the Lisi nursery:

The Fiji Islands are characterised by lush rainforests, turquoise lagoons, volcanic mountains and a warm-hearted, culturally diverse population. In the Domain district of the capital, Suva, the country’s only Waldorf initiative to date has been in operation since 2011: the Flametree Kindergarten. Following the early death of her mother, Nanise Sauvere was raised by one of the kindergarten’s founders and now works there herself. She is now the headteacher and coordinator, and with great dedication supports the children, families, and her team through the daily life of the kindergarten. The Rio Dulce Waldorf School in the province of Santa Fe grew out of the nursery school of the same name, which was founded around ten years ago. The organisation had been searching for some time for a soziable and affordable plot of land on which to build a primary school when it finally received an offer from the local council.
